We left McDonald's this morning with 4 bikes and 7 riders. Joining
Debbie and me were Bruce and Yvonne Pirtel, Ron Hooten, Carol Tisdale, and Ned Goodman.
The first leg of the ride was short and took us into Harriman where Glenn and Audrey Owens
joined the group.
Unfortunately I had to make a change in the ride. I received a tip that I may want to check to see if Bacaras Family Restaurant was open. Rumor has it that the owners may have forgotten to tell the IRS about exactly how much cash was flowing through the restaurant. I'm sad to say that the rumor may be true because when we passed the restaurant there was a "For Sale" sign at the entrance. It's a sad day indeed. I really enjoyed the food and atmosphere at this place.
Just before we entered Big South Fork the skies began to threaten rain. By the time we got to the Obed River they made good on their threat. We decided to put on the rain gear and walk down by the river. The recent rains were very evident in the level of the river. The water was flowing over the foot bridge that carries hikers across the river. Once again we proved that the best way to stop the rain is to put on rain gear. That's right, as we made our way back to the bikes the rain quit.
We left the river behind and headed through BSF. After a gas stop in Jamestown we took highway 52 into Rugby where we stopped at the Harrow Road Cafe. This restaurant features traditional English cuisine. Sheppard's pie, bangers-n-mash and fish-n-chips just to name a few. If you don't care for English food they even had a good ole hamburger for Ned. Once again we ate too much so we took a short walk up to the Rugby Commissary to let our lunch settle. After a quick look around the commissary we left Rugby to begin the journey back home.
Even with the rain shower it was another wonderful ride. Great roads, great scenery, great food and great company just seems to be the recipe for success.
